Has Hormone Therapy Been Used In The Treatment Of Fibroids?

There is a class of drugs, called gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists, that has been used as a nonsurgical treatment option for fibroids. The most commonly used medications in this class are buserelin, leuprolide, and nafarelin, with leuprolide (Lupron) being the best known.

These drugs act by effectively lowering the levels of the female hormones estrogen and progesterone. These drugs are therefore effective in decreasing the size of the fibroid and reducing the amount of bleeding associated with fibroids.
