Will Changing My Glasses Help Improve My Vision?

The damage that occurs from macular degeneration is to the retina. Damage to the retina is not correctable by changes in glasses. Glasses correct for various refractive errors such as being  nearsighted, farsighted, or having an  astigmatism (an abnormal curvature to the eye). While a change in glasses will not improve the vision that is damaged from macular degeneration, maximizing one’s glasses can help to improve the overall vision.

Such adjustments do not correct for the macular degeneration, but they do ensure that any refractive error is appropriately corrected. If you or your ophthalmologist is not certain, it is reasonable to undergo a refraction to see if it helps with the quality of vision.
