Is There A Difference Between Vitamin Supplements?

There are numerous eye vitamins available. Those recommended for patients with age-related macular degeneration are supplements that have the AREDS formulation (see Question 39). To be fair, it is not known whether other formulations may be comparable or even better, but the best and most complete research available is that of the AREDS formulation; therefore, it is the AREDS formulation that is recommended by the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Several manufacturers make an AREDS formulation, and this is usually stated on the outside of the bottle; however, if you have any questions, your pharmacist will be able to direct you to an AREDS formulation.
