How Does Uterine Cancer Spread?

Cancer can spread in three ways: by extending into surrounding tissue; by passing through the blood sup-ply, a process called hematogenous dissemination; or by traveling in the  lymphatic system, the “cleaning sys-tem” of the body, in a process termed lymphatic spread.

Uterine cancer can spread in all of these ways. Knowing the ways in which cancers spread is important, because such knowledge often is used to decide what type of surgery is necessary and what other types of treatment are necessary (such as the use of chemotherapy and the number of cycles needed).
